Catalysts — news on the markets you are watching

The Catalysts feed shows press releases and headlines for the tickers your desk is showing right now, not a global news firehose.

What it is

Catalysts is a news feed scoped to your board. On the desktop it is the board’s News view, beside Map, Grid and Screen; on a phone it has its own News tab with the same stories, as cards. Headline markers remain on the chart. It shows only items that name a ticker your desk is currently showing — crypto majors, and the equity, index, and commodity markets Hyperliquid lists. Newest first. Nothing else gets in, so you never have to work out whether a headline touches anything you trade.

Where the items come from

  • Corporate press releases off the PR wire, tagged PR — the same release the market reacts to, at wire speed.
  • Market headlines from a curated set of financial newsrooms.
  • An item reaches you when it names one of your markets — either as the release’s own ticker or in the headline itself, so a partnership or a treasury purchase that moves a market you hold still lands.
  • Every item is read once and reduced to a single line, a category, and an expected direction where the text supports one. Marketing and awards-circuit releases are dropped rather than shown.

The News view

On the desktop, pick News in the board’s view switch, beside Map, Grid and Screen; on a phone, tap the News tab. It reads the same wire as stories, measured against what each market actually did.

  • Stories, not a headline list: wires repeating one event fold into one row with a count, and a standing story — a shipping-lane escalation, a policy fight — carries its name and latest state. Open a row with its arrow to see each headline, measured from its own time.
  • × normal: each market a story names shows its move since the story’s first headline naming that market, against the market’s own usual move over the same span. 1× is an ordinary move; 2× and up lights amber. Hover a market for the numbers behind it.
  • Since: the lead market’s path since the story first named it — the dashed line is where it stood when the news landed — with cyan ticks under it on the candles your desk’s signal matched, so you can see whether your signal moved before the news or after it. The row’s age is its newest headline; when the lead market was first named earlier, Since says how long ago — in hours, such as 39h, past a day where the row’s age reads 1d — and the row’s numbers run from there.
  • Move, Vol, Flow and Total: the move since, volume against the market’s usual candle, net taker flow on desks that load the trade tape, and your desk’s Total now. A story under an hour old follows the tape tick by tick on one-minute candles.
  • The next high-impact releases sit on top, with how the venue took the same release last time; once a release prints, its actual against the forecast and the venue’s measured reaction.
  • All or Firing: Firing keeps only the markets your desk’s signals light right now — under All, the header’s firing count is the number of stories Firing will list, and All carries every one of them. It is the same setting as Min score → Firing on the board, so the Map and Screen narrow with it.
  • No news lists your desk’s markets that moved 2% or more in the last day with no headline naming them — the move was flow.
  • On the desktop, hover a row to preview its market on the chart, click to keep it, and step through rows with ↑ and ↓.

On the chart

Catalysts also mark the chart. When you focus a market, every news item naming it plants a tick on the chart’s time axis beside the scheduled macro releases — green where the read leans bullish, rose where it leans bearish, amber where it claims nothing — so you can see whether a move had a headline behind it or moved on flow alone. Hover a tick for the item, or point at the catalyst in the trade column’s Info face and its tick lights up. Turn the markers off under Overlays → News.

On a phone

  • Each story is a card: its age, with a ▲ or ▼ when the read has a direction (none means no direction was claimed), its title, the lead market’s path since with its move, and under it every market the story names with its × normal. When the lead market was first named earlier than the card’s age, “since” says how long ago.
  • Tap a card to bring its lead market up on the chart above, or tap one of its markets to bring up that one.
  • “N headlines” opens the story: each headline with its source, measured from its own time. The link icon opens the original in a new tab.
  • The next releases sit on top, one line each, and Stories or No news and All or Firing work as on the desktop. The feed covers the last two days.

News alerts

The bell in the News view’s header turns on alerts for that desk: VYX watches the wire for you every minute, tab open or not, and emails and pushes you when a headline names one of the desk’s markets and that market then moves at least three times its usual move — and at least 0.5% — within 15 minutes of the headline. That is the brightest × normal the News view prints, measured the same way on one-minute candles. The alert names the market, its move, how many times its normal that is, how long after the headline, and the headline with a link to the source.

  • It covers every market on the desk’s board, whichever of All or Firing you are looking at.
  • Each market alerts at most once an hour, however many wires repeat the story. Alert emails share the daily cap every VYX alert uses.
  • Alerts run on our servers, on every plan, free included; they need a desk of your own. Switch them off from the bell, or from Settings → Notifications, where each desk with news alerts on has its own row.

Ask the chat why something moved

The Composer chat reads the same wire. Ask "why is GOLD moving?" and it pulls the headlines that name that market — how long ago each landed, whether it is breaking or a re-report, and which way the text leans — before it answers. If nothing on the wire names the market, it says so: the move is flow, not news. It will not invent a reason, and a headline never becomes a price call. Your own AI can read it too, over the API and the MCP server.

What it does not do

Catalysts reports what was published; it never tells you what to do about it. Directions are a machine read of the text itself, not a forecast and not a signal — treat a row as a reason to go look at the market, and let the board tell you whether flow agrees. When your board is quiet, the feed is empty, which is the honest answer rather than filler.
